1/15/2009 7:39:00 PM |
From a product standpoint, no. But I do believe Burger King's marketing is much stronger and does a great job of creating relevance with a younger generation. |
| 3. |
1/15/2009 7:39:00 PM |
no, it's doing better than Wendy's |
| 4. |
1/15/2009 7:40:00 PM |
Dunkin Donuts |
| 5. |
1/15/2009 7:40:00 PM |
Subway, because they have emphasized their healthy food items. |
| 6. |
1/15/2009 7:41:00 PM |
Wendy's does a better job on perception of food quality and freshness. they also have better options - side salad or baked potato instead of fries. |
| 7. |
1/15/2009 7:41:00 PM |
Wendy's and its value mean |
| 8. |
1/15/2009 7:41:00 PM |
As far as food quality goes, I really prefer Burger King and Hardee's. However, they have a problem with number of stores. McDonald's has everyone beat with number of stores and sheer accessibility. |
| 9. |
1/15/2009 7:41:00 PM |
Burger King I feel is the better job promoting their products. Its larger, flame broiled and seems more like a burger. The Big Mac is mostly bun with wafer thin meat patties. Neither is a great product just OK food served fast and cheap. |
| 10. |
1/15/2009 7:42:00 PM |
Nope! |
| 11. |
1/15/2009 7:42:00 PM |
Chick-Fil-A - Better food, better service. |
| 12. |
1/15/2009 7:42:00 PM |
i like wendy's personally wish some of those west coast chains were on the east coast (jack in the box, in amd out burger) |
| 13. |
1/15/2009 7:43:00 PM |
Wendy's for their chicken nuggetts. |
| 14. |
1/15/2009 7:43:00 PM |
they pretty much all suck |
| 15. |
1/15/2009 7:43:00 PM |
anyone with natural ingredients and not grease |
| 16. |
1/15/2009 7:43:00 PM |
each chain seems to focus in different markets mc donalds fast, low price wendys centers around a salad bar hardees around big burgers |
| 17. |
1/15/2009 7:43:00 PM |
Five Guys... Teenage boys love them (and they eat a ton of food)... simple menu, cooked to order yet still very fast. they haven't complicated things.... yet. |
| 18. |
1/15/2009 7:44:00 PM |
Wendy's - got "healthy" looong before McDonalds. |
| 19. |
1/15/2009 7:45:00 PM |
Burger King has better advertising. |
| 20. |
1/15/2009 7:45:00 PM |
local to Fairfield County, CT - Duchess. Always good quality at a decent price, any time of day. |
| 21. |
1/15/2009 7:45:00 PM |
Chic-Fil-A does a great job in-store with community building |
| 22. |
1/15/2009 7:45:00 PM |
Chipotle (which I believe is owned in part by McDonalds) and Subway both offer prepared-to-spec items and FAST. |
| 23. |
1/15/2009 7:45:00 PM |
I think Chipotle has done a better job on a couple of fronts: 1. community responsibility, 2. Healthiness of offerings, 3. "natural" perception-menu, ambiance, staff, 4 pleasant, engaged staff-very consistent across stores and cities. |
| 24. |
1/15/2009 7:46:00 PM |
Those who truly have healthy offerings. In the fast food market, I don't know that there is anyone who will win this category. |
| 25. |
1/15/2009 7:46:00 PM |
Burger King and Carl's Jr. provide a better quality of food. |
| 26. |
1/15/2009 7:46:00 PM |
Wendy's ... better tasting food. |
| 27. |
1/15/2009 7:47:00 PM |
nope--always my first choice for this type of food |
| 28. |
1/15/2009 7:47:00 PM |
No. |
| 29. |
1/15/2009 7:47:00 PM |
Don't eat very much fast food, but Wendy's is competitive with McDonald's in the healthier foods category. |
| 30. |
1/15/2009 7:48:00 PM |
In my opinion there is no "winner" in this food category |
| 31. |
1/15/2009 7:49:00 PM |
In N Out - Freshly prepared, real ingredients, great service |
| 32. |
1/15/2009 7:49:00 PM |
No ... I detest all fast food chains. I mean, just look at the obesity problem in this country (a lot of which has been caused by cheap, bad-for-you food) and what is happening in other countries as a result of McD's expanding into those regions. It's going to be a fat, fat, fat, fat world very soon! |
| 33. |
1/15/2009 7:50:00 PM |
Culver's - better taste |
| 34. |
1/15/2009 7:50:00 PM |
non chain options and pei wei, locally chicken shack |
| 35. |
1/15/2009 7:51:00 PM |
I am a big fan of In-n-Out. It, too, is cheap, but the burgers are really, really good. And it's just burgers, fries and shakes. |
| 36. |
1/15/2009 7:51:00 PM |
BK is doing a pretty great job at creating buzz, don't know what it's doing for sales. |

1/15/2009 7:52:00 PM |
Dunkin Donuts, but I am not sure they are the same space. |
| 41. |
1/15/2009 7:52:00 PM |
I think that Wendy's does a great job at offering different options and substitutions. I also really like Duchess. It's a local fast food restaurant in the Southwestern CT area. It does everything fresh on grill tops with local quality ingredients. Most people in this area choose Duchess over any other fast food restaurant. They have healthy choices and fresh choices. I don't even consider it fast food. |
| 42. |
1/15/2009 7:52:00 PM |
Burger King - customization of your burger gives makes you feel you have a say. Flame-broiled always appears to be more healthy then what McD offers. |
| 43. |
1/15/2009 7:53:00 PM |
Chick-Fil-A; customer service is better, menu is innovative, with healthy choices. |
| 44. |
1/15/2009 7:53:00 PM |
Perhaps Subway, with their focus on healthy eating, may be stealing some of McD's thunder. |
| 45. |
1/15/2009 7:53:00 PM |
I used to visit other companies restaurants but most others seem to have lost their way - especially Burger king. Their marketing and advertsiing may appeal to some but at times I find it offensive, so I do not eat there anymore. |
| 46. |
1/15/2009 7:54:00 PM |
No. Not at this level. |
| 47. |
1/15/2009 7:56:00 PM |
Dunkin Donuts |

1/15/2009 7:57:00 PM |
Jack in the Box in terms of advertising. |
| 49. |
1/15/2009 8:00:00 PM |
Burgerville in the Pacific Northwest uses local ingredients and organic beef, and has seasonal specialties like Walla Walls onion rings, so they really hit the mark for our area. And In-N-Out is fantastic because their quality and service is top notch. It's also fun to know the secret menu items like the protein style burger wrapped in lettuce with no bun. |
| 50. |
1/15/2009 8:01:00 PM |
Subway continues to hold ground. |
| 51. |
1/15/2009 8:02:00 PM |
Panera and Cosi are not quite competitors but both do an excellent job |
| 52. |
1/15/2009 8:02:00 PM |
wendy's, it may just be marketing but i feel like they have slightly healthier offerings. |
| 53. |
1/15/2009 8:03:00 PM |
no |
| 54. |
1/15/2009 8:04:00 PM |
Wendy's has healthier options and better quality but they need to advertise more . |
| 55. |
1/15/2009 8:05:00 PM |
While Burger King has good advertising, their food is not nearly as good. |
| 56. |
1/15/2009 8:05:00 PM |
I'm waiting for someone to stimulate and satisfy their customer with a brand loyalty campaign - don't see it with any of them. |
| 57. |
1/15/2009 8:08:00 PM |
Burger King has the comedic advertising which appeals to a lot of people, however, I feel that on a food quality level, McDonald's is more trusted. Subway will always be a competitor because they just naturally have more healthier products because they are sandwiches, not burgers and fries. Their advertising is not nearly as effective, though. |
| 58. |
1/15/2009 8:08:00 PM |

| 62. |
1/15/2009 8:13:00 PM |

1/15/2009 8:17:00 PM |

| 65. |
1/15/2009 8:20:00 PM |
in and out burger....better roduct quality |
| 66. |
1/15/2009 8:21:00 PM |
Moe's, Baja Burrito, all of these smaller, healthy burrito joints seem to do a better job of positioning their offering as a healthy alternative to fast food. McDonald's is still fast food, unfortunately for them. I used to allow myself an occasional cheeseburger. In the last couple of years, that consumption has dwindled away to 0. I never eat at McDonald's now, since all traditional burger-based fast food joints gross me out. |
| 67. |
1/15/2009 8:23:00 PM |
Chik-fil-a is new in our area. The restaurant itself is clean and well lit with a large children's play area. The service is excellent. Drive up to the drive thru and you are greeted enthusiastically by someone welcoming you and stating their name to personalize the interaction. Well done! |
| 68. |
1/15/2009 8:23:00 PM |
Wendy's - better tastier food |
| 69. |
1/15/2009 8:25:00 PM |
none |
| 70. |
1/15/2009 8:26:00 PM |
I don't think any of the traditional competitors will ever come close. But, some of the moderately priced places--like Applebees and TGIFridays are making "food to go" pretty interesting and easy. |
| 71. |
1/15/2009 8:27:00 PM |
I think I like what Arby's are doing. They added a nice variety of salads to the menu. Plus their ambiance is so much classier than McDonalds in my opinion. it doesn't even feel like fast food restaurant. |
| 72. |
1/15/2009 8:27:00 PM |
Wendy's. I like the chicken sandwich and the healthy side options. Good news--love the Coleman beef. |
| 73. |
1/15/2009 8:33:00 PM |
different competitors excel in different ways--Almost every competitor has higher quality hamburgers. But no one beats McDonald's on value and attempts at health. |
| 74. |
1/15/2009 8:33:00 PM |
Some of the more "niche" chains - e.g. Sonic, Five Guys, Steak & Shake - are doing some interesting things with advertising (Sonic) and food quality (Five Guys). |
| 75. |
1/15/2009 8:34:00 PM |
No |
| 76. |
1/15/2009 8:36:00 PM |
BurgerVille -- they use local, fresh, seasonal ingredients, and market on that quality; they also get press for their labor practices and the way they run their company. I think successful companies going forward will be judged not only on their product, but on their business model, values, labor practices, and how they treat their employees. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. |
| 77. |
1/15/2009 8:36:00 PM |
Starbucks is way better as a cafe. Carl's Jr. has a better menu, better food. |
| 78. |
1/15/2009 8:38:00 PM |
Not on their sclae. There is a lot of better food-Five Guys, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Sterak 'n Shake-but they are minor players |
| 79. |
1/15/2009 8:38:00 PM |
Dunkin Donuts is being very successful with its forays in to the lunchtime daypart. Different food offerings at a good price. |
| 80. |
1/15/2009 8:39:00 PM |
BK, the food. |

1/15/2009 8:40:00 PM |

1/15/2009 8:41:00 PM |

| 83. |
1/15/2009 8:44:00 PM |
KFC - value por price |
| 84. |
1/15/2009 8:45:00 PM |
Chipolte, healthy really tasty food and great price for food value. I could eat there every night. |
| 85. |
1/15/2009 8:55:00 PM |
From a "new" media, probably Burger King and Hardee's |
| 86. |
1/15/2009 8:57:00 PM |
I don't think so, unless it would be ChikFila. They continue to anchor to their core as well. |
| 87. |
1/15/2009 8:58:00 PM |
When Wendy's introduced their deli sandwiches, I started going there vs. McD's because it seemed healthier. But they've disco'd them, so I'm back to McDonalds. |

| 91. |
1/15/2009 9:15:00 PM |
In and Out Burger Sonic I go to both of these frequently - great food and fabulous service. No need to advertise. I talk about them everywhere I go. |
| 92. |
1/15/2009 9:16:00 PM |
not sure... |
| 93. |
1/15/2009 9:19:00 PM |
Subway. Subway is focusing on health and wellness as their number 1 pitch and it has worked for them for years. They aren't trying to only market to kids or adults but anybody who is looking for a quick, good for you meal at a reasonable price. Keeping prices at even, low amounts keeps Subway top of mind for me when I am looking for fast food. |
| 94. |
1/15/2009 9:20:00 PM |
Wendy's - they are making a more healthful breakfast. |
| 95. |
1/15/2009 9:21:00 PM |
Leon's across London. Proper Chef behind it. See, for example: http://www.caterersearch.com/Articles/2008/05/15/320817/healthy-fast-food.html |
| 96. |
1/15/2009 9:33:00 PM |
I used to think Wendy's, but I feel like McDonald's has pulled ahead of the "healthy food options" category. |
| 97. |
1/15/2009 9:35:00 PM |
Chipotle......the food is better.....it's fresh..... |
| 98. |
1/15/2009 9:37:00 PM |
Burger King, because they seem to have found a voice and positioning and live by it in all things. And In and Out Burger, because they too seem to know who and what they are--not McDonald's--and be consistent with that. |
| 99. |
1/15/2009 9:39:00 PM |
Five Guys and In'n'Out Burger make better-tasting, more interesting burgers and fries. For drive-thru, Arby's has a more interesting menu -- who would think you could get great chicken salad sandwiches in a drive-thru? And what amazing curly fries. |
| 100. |
1/15/2009 9:40:00 PM |
Panera isn't really a competitor but in the salad category they're better. |
| 101. |
1/15/2009 9:43:00 PM |
Noone is doing a better job, although it seems like all comps are playing in the arena now. We will see in the coming year. |

none |
| 103. |

Chipotle for fresh - organic foods. Noodles, for variety and more of a "meal" feel. vs. sandwich and fries. |
| 104. |
1/15/2009 9:54:00 PM |
I am in Australia. Only thing close would be a particular Sushi place that has very fast service, high quality food at a great price - though I do not believe its a chain yet. I find myself eating there than at any other fast food outlet. |
| 105. |
1/15/2009 9:59:00 PM |

| 106. |
1/15/2009 10:00:00 PM |
Actually, I think they are the best of the fast food companies. |

No other QSR offers the variety, value and consistency as McDs. |

| 109. |
1/15/2009 10:44:00 PM |
Wendy's used to be innovative. Don't think they are doing as well. Don't live near a Burger King. |

1/15/2009 10:44:00 PM |
no |
| 111. |
1/15/2009 10:47:00 PM |
Wendy's! The food tastes better, they offer more choices, they offer fresh add-ons such as tomatoes, onions, etc. Get rid of the reconstituted minced onions. Yuk! |

Certainly not Burger King, nor Wendy's. Can't think of any others. |
| 115. |
1/15/2009 11:13:00 PM |
Burger King - clean, well trained. AND they have a veggie burger! What's not to love? |

1/15/2009 11:31:00 PM |

1/16/2009 1:49:00 AM |
Culver's...by a mile! |
| 124. |
1/16/2009 2:51:00 AM |
The other weekend after church we drove out of town 20 miles to eat at a McD's on the turnpike, bypassing 3 in our city. The place was clean, the attitudes good, the food was hot and fresh. The difference maybe, you're not going to like this statement, at the in town McD's, on any particular shift, only one white person working; the one on the turnpike that day, only one non-white person working. |
| 125. |
1/16/2009 3:08:00 AM |
In-N-Out Burger...simple menu and fresh ingredients at an affordable price...unfortunately, only located out West. |
| 126. |
1/16/2009 3:17:00 AM |
Chick-fil-a -- their food is better |
| 127. |
1/16/2009 3:45:00 AM |
Paneras food tastes much better/fresher but it is also more expensive and difficult to find |
| 128. |
1/16/2009 4:30:00 AM |
Chipotle is far superior! See above...figure it out, if you are not blinded by huge amounts of $$$, designed to convince the public that trash is treasure. |
| 129. |
1/16/2009 9:37:00 AM |
Mom & Pop burger shops - they aren't as fast or consistent, but they seem to genuinely care about their customers, and I feel like the product is of a far higher grade for only slightly more money - they don't have the same overhead and infrastructure to support. |
| 130. |
1/16/2009 9:59:00 AM |
Several, but smaller players. |
| 131. |
1/16/2009 1:39:00 PM |
Subway. Fast , healthy food. Have been in India recently and intersted to see the localized healthy offerings, compared to local translation of McDonalds which is also good, but not healthy. |
| 132. |
1/16/2009 1:46:00 PM |
Wendy's. The food is better and delivered as fast as McDonald's. While traditionally more expensive, it's value menu is more diverse and tastes better. |
| 133. |
1/16/2009 1:58:00 PM |
nope |
| 134. |
1/16/2009 2:12:00 PM |
I think BK has better kids options, they just charge too much for the healthy ones. I think Chick-Fil-A has always done a better job on value, service and focus on kids. |
| 135. |
1/16/2009 3:14:00 PM |
Wendy's seems to have alternatives like chili, baked potatoes, which are nice. |
| 136. |
1/16/2009 3:26:00 PM |
Sonic is doing a good job, not sure if it's better. |
| 137. |
1/16/2009 3:44:00 PM |
Chick Fil-A. Their food is so good - even the food that's not good for me!! And they have a play area and their kids prize is a book not some stupid piece of plastic I'll throw away in 2 days. |
| 138. |
1/16/2009 3:53:00 PM |
BK is more effective at generating buzz |
| 139. |
1/16/2009 3:59:00 PM |
No. Ubiquity helps. |
| 140. |
1/16/2009 4:10:00 PM |
McDonald's is still at the top, regardless of what competitors do. People will always have a need for low-cost, fast food, and as long as they focus on the quality of their low-cost, fast food, they will be fine. |
| 141. |
1/16/2009 4:15:00 PM |
Wendy's salads are better |
| 142. |
1/16/2009 4:17:00 PM |
Burger King does a better job of advertising with some very creative and memorable ads featuring the King. |
| 143. |

In & Out Burger |
| 148. |
1/16/2009 6:46:00 PM |
Taco bell. Lots of options (even for vegetarians). Low price points. However, they could do better on the healthy angle of things. |
