Would you be upset if Starbucks closed a store in your neighborhood?
# Response Date Why or why not?
1. 8/14/2008 6:44:00 AM It's the only freaking one here!
2. 8/14/2008 6:45:00 AM its still a good place to get the NYTimes in Boston.
3. 8/14/2008 7:38:00 AM They run a good operation.
4. 8/14/2008 7:57:00 AM It's their business model...they need to work out what makes sense. I have no judgement one way or the other on that...plus, for me, coffee is not this thing that I HAVE to have close by. It would not affect how I feel about the brand at all if they opened/closed stores in my area.
5. 8/14/2008 10:05:00 AM Starbucks should definitely close stores.
6. 8/14/2008 10:49:00 AM This is one neighborhood (downtown Cleveland) where its locations don't seem excessive.
7. 8/14/2008 10:50:00 AM My happiness is not driven by the convenience or lack thereof of any vendor including Starbucks.
8. 8/14/2008 10:58:00 AM No other decent cafe in town.
9. 8/14/2008 11:10:00 AM Don't go there often, several other coffee shops to go to, WiFi at this Starbucks does not work, does at Bo's
10. 8/14/2008 11:41:00 AM For the convenience of going there and the fact that my children like the specialty drinks.
11. 8/14/2008 11:44:00 AM Too many. Too homogenous. Not enough individualism in Starbucks brand. Like a big tough guy.
12. 8/14/2008 11:47:00 AM There are plenty of others within close distance
13. 8/14/2008 12:01:00 PM We have outstanding "locals" with more atmosphere and uniqueness. But the Starbucks stores also are attractive and offer variety, nice seating, convenience for business meetings, etc.
14. 8/14/2008 12:09:00 PM I don't do there that often, and it is not that close to my home
15. 8/14/2008 12:10:00 PM It might give a local coffeehouse an opportunity.
16. 8/14/2008 12:20:00 PM It would actually help the brand if they were a little less convenient, a little more special.
17. 8/14/2008 12:21:00 PM It's convenient and consistent. It also adds to the neighborhood - which used to be "on the cusp" with crime, homelessness. Now, the Starbucks says that my neighborhood has arrived.
18. 8/14/2008 12:21:00 PM There are plenty of alternatives
19. 8/14/2008 12:35:00 PM One Store is perfectly located considering my commute
20. 8/14/2008 12:36:00 PM Don't go now anyway!
21. 8/14/2008 12:40:00 PM No Starbucks in my neighborhood...
22. 8/14/2008 12:41:00 PM They took over an historic building and really improved it. I'd hate to see it go back to the way it was
23. 8/14/2008 12:44:00 PM It is a good option to take a break and get something to eat in our little downtown area
24. 8/14/2008 12:44:00 PM Right now I don't use it very much, but I could well again in the future!
25. 8/14/2008 12:46:00 PM There is one strategically placed in all the major areas of my town. I can walk to one from home another from work and there is another that is located right where I do all of my errands.
26. 8/14/2008 12:51:00 PM As long as the one near work stayed open...
27. 8/14/2008 12:52:00 PM Depends which one they closed and if the service got better at the one they kept.
28. 8/14/2008 12:52:00 PM Slightly less convenient at some times.
29. 8/14/2008 1:02:00 PM I probably would not go to Starbucks if it wasn't convenient
30. 8/14/2008 1:13:00 PM Depends on which one...there is a free-standing Starbucks that has a very convenient drive-thru, and I would be upset if that closed. But there is also a Starbucks inside a grocery store that I would not necessarily miss if it closed.
31. 8/14/2008 1:13:00 PM There are some excellent local independents in both my home and work neighborhoods.
32. 8/14/2008 1:14:00 PM depends which one
33. 8/14/2008 1:16:00 PM I would have to drive several miles out of my way to another one. My husband goes daily, sometimes twice daily & would be very upset.
34. 8/14/2008 1:22:00 PM WE have 11 Dunkin Donuts in our town.
35. 8/14/2008 1:34:00 PM I have other good choices.
36. 8/14/2008 1:36:00 PM They are closing one that I drive by on my way to work, if I stop at all it is at that one. So I am sad it is closing.
37. 8/14/2008 1:39:00 PM They are!
38. 8/14/2008 1:40:00 PM See above - No need for any more Starbucks in NYC - there are enough!
39. 8/14/2008 1:43:00 PM If it were the one closest to me I might be a little upset.
40. 8/14/2008 1:44:00 PM I am loyal to another coffee place
41. 8/14/2008 1:56:00 PM Its far enough away to be a treat when you want one. No access would be bad
42. 8/14/2008 1:57:00 PM Because I have 3 more to go to!
43. 8/14/2008 1:58:00 PM It's convenient to have one nearby when I want it.
44. 8/14/2008 2:00:00 PM Even though I don't go often, I like knowing it's there and being able to stop by when I'm driving to a client (for a morning fix) or to walk up on a Saturday morning.
45. 8/14/2008 2:01:00 PM There would need to be one for me to be upset. You need another button.
46. 8/14/2008 2:01:00 PM They have already started closing stores around me. (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
47. 8/14/2008 2:02:00 PM it's part of my routine
48. 8/14/2008 2:06:00 PM Don't go to it - generally visit it only while on the road/at the airport only
49. 8/14/2008 2:10:00 PM Depends on which one - and proximity.
50. 8/14/2008 2:17:00 PM I am not their customer.
51. 8/14/2008 2:27:00 PM I like the coffee and the atmosphere to catch up on reading or meet with friends and business colleagues. Convenience is a big part of that. Closures cause inconvenience.
52. 8/14/2008 2:30:00 PM It's a familiar sight but I probably would not miss it given that there is a local coffee shop and a Dunkin very close by. Dunkin has better coffee.
53. 8/14/2008 2:32:00 PM I have 2 independent coffee shops closer -- one is faster and good for basic coffee, the other is slow but super atmosphere and great drinks. Almost never go to Starbucks in my neighborhood anymore.
54. 8/14/2008 2:41:00 PM free-standing units are a good location identifier!
55. 8/14/2008 2:42:00 PM I'm very indifferent. Coffee might taste good but it is ridiculously priced, service is incredibly slow (ever had coffee in Italy?), and the stores are too harsh -- dark lighting only makes the stores look dirty and dingy, not comfy and cozy. Funky independent coffee shops are much much much more interesting and they get it right.
56. 8/14/2008 2:43:00 PM There are plenty of independent coffee shops, other chains, or diners in the same area.
57. 8/14/2008 2:44:00 PM BECAUSE IT'S RIGHT ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I WOULD BE BUMMED IF I HAD TO DRIVE OUT OF MY WAY FOR IT!
58. 8/14/2008 2:46:00 PM It's just business, nothing personal- though I think in some'hoods having a Starbucks open is/was a sign that the area is becoming important and closing the store has hit some of these areas in a personal way.
59. 8/14/2008 2:46:00 PM As long as they didnt close ALL of them, I'd be fine.
60. 8/14/2008 2:49:00 PM you always can find an option
61. 8/14/2008 2:52:00 PM It's a gathering place central to our first ring 'burb outside of Mpls. While I also like Dunn Brothers, the space is too small to meet.
62. 8/14/2008 2:59:00 PM Because when I'm on that side of town I always go there either for a capp or an iced tea.
63. 8/14/2008 3:14:00 PM dunkin donuts coffee is better
64. 8/14/2008 3:28:00 PM We have Peet's Coffee which is much better and we have several private coffee places that roast their own and are infinitely better.
65. 8/14/2008 3:33:00 PM it had always been a destination stop for us. Just a little more convenient now.
66. 8/14/2008 3:35:00 PM Starbucks is a pillar of our neighborhood. Losing one would change the area in a way that probably would not work as well as having a Starbucks.
67. 8/14/2008 3:40:00 PM They take up space that another retailer could occupy, with a needed service.
68. 8/14/2008 3:44:00 PM sometimes i need a coffee and they are convenient
69. 8/14/2008 3:46:00 PM I do like certain specialty drinks--and prefer to get them in the stand-alone store, rather than the grocery store stands.
70. 8/14/2008 3:55:00 PM I like Starbucks but I seldom go out of my way to go there. Other coffee shops in the area lack the aesthetic but have finer coffee.
71. 8/14/2008 3:56:00 PM Because the remaining stores would get busier.
72. 8/14/2008 4:12:00 PM I seldom make the walk over any longer. ਀ഊOut of convenience I might pop in but it is no longer a destination as it once was.
73. 8/14/2008 4:12:00 PM There are too many. The shops in the grocery stores are overkill. I liked Starbucks for it's unique and appealing stores. Now it's like McDonalds in Walmart - it's not special anymore.
74. 8/14/2008 4:14:00 PM Depends on which they close. If they close the one closest - yes, I'd be upset. Also at work, there are two in walking distance. If they close the one I go to 90% of the time, I'd be very upset.
75. 8/14/2008 4:19:00 PM There are plenty of better alternatives.
76. 8/14/2008 4:37:00 PM There are more than enough stores within 2 miles of my house.
77. 8/14/2008 4:40:00 PM They are actually closing one near me. It's not the most convenient to get to so I'm okay with it.
78. 8/14/2008 4:51:00 PM n/a
79. 8/14/2008 4:52:00 PM Where McDonald's was once the sign of civilization, Starbucks now is
80. 8/14/2008 4:57:00 PM My fave is the one in Barnes & Noble. It's great to be able to take a book or magazine to browse while I'm sipping.
81. 8/14/2008 5:04:00 PM I would feel bad for the people who congregate there. It's hard to lose a place like that.
82. 8/14/2008 5:42:00 PM There are several others, two are right next to each other
83. 8/14/2008 5:56:00 PM Because there are plenty of other ones I could go to with little additional effort.
84. 8/14/2008 6:06:00 PM It's convenient to have them always within a few blocks. Though I always prefer a local place if there is one.
85. 8/14/2008 6:07:00 PM Because this is road food for me, not home food
86. 8/14/2008 6:49:00 PM Convenience
87. 8/14/2008 6:51:00 PM Because there are four others in my neighborhood
88. 8/14/2008 7:13:00 PM I love fraps and it would be nice to get them close to home.
89. 8/14/2008 8:00:00 PM Maybe a new local coffee store would spring up in it's stead
90. 8/14/2008 8:15:00 PM too long a wait in the AM for coffee when I do get it ...
91. 8/14/2008 9:10:00 PM As I said before, I like their beans.
92. 8/14/2008 9:27:00 PM i brew quality coffee at home now
93. 8/14/2008 10:09:00 PM There are many other coffee shop options in my neighborhood such as bakeries and other coffee shops.
94. 8/14/2008 10:10:00 PM I don't patronize the one that is so far from my home so wouldn't matter if it closed.
95. 8/14/2008 10:11:00 PM They're not convenient for me so I rarely go there. I go to those that are near where I workout and near work.
96. 8/14/2008 11:50:00 PM I wouldnt miss one...if they closed 3 or 4 of them I would be upset
97. 8/15/2008 12:31:00 AM There is a drive thru one nearby...very convenient!
98. 8/15/2008 2:08:00 AM it is not my first choice for coffee so i have options
99. 8/15/2008 2:57:00 AM Nice to walk into town with wife/kids to go for a coffee
100. 8/15/2008 7:10:00 AM they already closed one, yet the local shops are still doing great
101. 8/15/2008 4:54:00 PM As long as it's only one store, I won't mind, because there are two others.
102. 8/15/2008 5:37:00 PM They are ubiquitous. There's another one around the corner.
103. 8/16/2008 12:04:00 AM I don't want employees to lose their jobs.
104. 8/16/2008 1:39:00 AM There aren't any other coffee shops in our area.
105. 8/17/2008 4:46:00 PM Tons of them elsewhere in my county.
106. 8/18/2008 1:51:00 PM It would depend on if it was the one that I always go to or one of the others that are just secondary options
107. 8/18/2008 3:25:00 PM YES
108. 8/18/2008 4:13:00 PM It depends which one they close. I would be upset if they closed the one I like the most. If they closed one of the other two, I'd be fine with it.
109. 8/18/2008 8:16:00 PM feel for the employees
